Hello, Hyoseon,

Thank you for your great desk crits to my project. I took some time to review your "Dongmin's Home" website and here are some of my comments:

1. The website is neatly designed and looks inviting. The font color looks a little bit too light, you may want to use a darker color for easy reading.

2. I noticed you have two links "Korean bapist church" and "God people" on the top right corner of each page. How are the two links relevant to this website? I suggest you move it to the "favoriate links".

3. I found you use some template developed in Korea, pls remember to put a english translation beside each term or title, otherswise people will get confused on what is it.

4. Do you consider to have a discription page for this family, the father, mother, and two lovely kids?  It may give people more idea what this family is.

I understand this is a functional website not in a demonstration purpose. It looks very comfortable to me. Hope my comments can be of help.

Hi, Li qi,

I got a time to reivew your personal website, here are some
of my comments. I understand it is a little bit late for
your to make any changes, but you may consider it when you
update your webiste later.

1. Your website looks bright and comfortable. The format and
colors are matched well. The welcome flash is very catching.
You have some good staff in this website.

2. You may consider to include some most important parts of
your oversea life into your website, such as course study,
work, research, and hobby or something. You cam always add
update these sessions with new staff adding in.

3. You may consider the move your resume/CV into the first
page as a session. Resume is important, people know you
first from this document.

3. You may combine Photo project and Photo album into one.
First year review can be a topic under "Study" or something,
but it looks strange and unparalell as an major session.

I do think personal webiste is an important project for our
doctoral student and it is worth spending time to do it
well. You are welcome to review and critique mine as well.

Hope these comments will help.

Hi, Monica,

Thanks a lot for your editing. I reviewed your website and find it was fantastic project. You definitly did a great job on the instructional design. Our two projects are similar in many parts, I think you are better than me in using the Captivate to creating the demonstration, and the Quiz is great too. I hope I couse use your way to feedback the answers.

Some other suggestions from me for your later revision:

1. I suggest you center the windows to make it more easy for the audience to view.

2. In each module, you have several demonstrations. When I saw the demos first, I thought they are PDF files, the icons are very similiar to PDF sign. You may want to use other icons to make it clear.

3. In the last session(the tutorial basic), you may consider to add a close or out button to leave, it is like a door out. But you don't have it in this final page, making people have no idea where to go next.

In general, your preject is great. I enjoy surfing it through. It also attract me by its useful function, I may learn the software Refworks later.

Hi, John,

I reviewed your project and found you had a good design on this project, but I only found the first part "Great leads". Did you finish all your project or not upload them into the Internet?

Some of my suggestions to the first part:

1. You may consider try to organize the content within one page tighter and closer, so that the students do not need scroll the bar for finding that on the bottom.

2. The content demonstration works well, and very straightforward, easy to understand.

3.The Quiz works well too, but you may turn both the sentences and the options(and the buttons) left side, since they did not look organized well, the button did not line up.

4.The practice question(write on the picture) is a good design for doing exercise. When I click "submit", it show "great job...." even I did not type anything in the zone. You may design a feedback such as "But you did not type anything there, try again" to the quick responders.

Your project has a great start and wish you could finish it soon.

Hi, Stuart,

I stood by your webiste in studio rehearsal and found your website interesting. I reviewed it again today and here are some of my desk crits.

1. The flash intro looks great. You may consider to put them closer within one page on the center.

2. The title of your website: you called it "UGA-College of education...you name", it is too long. I think you may make it more specific and short, like "Stuart's Photo World"

3. The radio is good, but the control panel did not work. You make mute it and allow the visitor click to listen. Now, it play automatically each time I visit the homepage, it is kind of distracting in the second time.

4.You may include a panel of links in every major page, so the visitor do not need to turn back to home page again for checking other pages.

5. Dreamweaver have a good photo organizer function called "create web photo album" under Commands, you may want to try it to see how it can work for you.

In general, I think you did a great job for making your first website, and you have a lot of great pictures and travel stories to share. I admire your experience. Congratulations to your new marriage and you wife is just beautiful.

Hi, Haidong:

Good job! Just several question/suggestion:

1. You choose gray color as your navigation bar. For me, the gray on the black is not obvious enough to find it.

2. I like the "Intro to WebCT". How do you think to put a button to help people close the window at the end of each module? It could remind people that it's the end and the next step they could do is close the window.

3. At the last pages of Quiz and Learning procedure, you would like to exchange the positions of "First page" and "Back". Because you put most of the "Back" at the left and "Next" at the right, people used to click left button to go back, and click the right button to get new information.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck for your project.

Haidong,

Your site looks great.  I love the simplicity of the design and the placement of the links on each page.  Very easy to use.  Given the amount of time left before the studio showcase, I will keep my feedback relatively brief and focus on a couple of things you might want to consider before Thursday:

1) Make sure you have alt. text for all graphics (I noticed the UGA Arch on the home page does not have alt text).

2) The link to "Quiz Yourself" from the Learning Procedure page does not work.

3) On the home page, I like everything about the picture of the man standing at the sign except for the road--the grayed in area does not seem to fit the rest of the design.  Is there another option for coloring the road (or maybe it should be left uncolored??)...obviously, this is purely a matter of opinion.

4) The UGA Arch graphic on each page looks a little fuzzy.   Can you optimize it more in Fireworks? I hope these comments are useful.

Aside from these few things, the site really looks awesome and I wish I had the design sense that you do!

Excellent job, Haidong! Very impressive!!!

Okay, here are a few things for you to think about.

1) (important), I see you used Flash for the buttons but make sure you make the button accessible for disabled people. In other words, make sure you set the "Accessibility" panel in Flash before you publish them and also add "Shortcut" so that people with problems using mouse still could access your website. The buttons look great, but it just concerns me a little bit.

2) you should add "script" for the introduction movie. The qulity of the movie is not that good. If I were a prospective student and see the low quality movie, I don't think I would be impressed.

3) The line "Your key to this online program!" is not visible enough...I would change font color to a little bit lighter color.

4) In the Courses and Required Credit Hours content, the title of each course is not easy to see/distinguish. I would change each course to bold and/or larger font.

5) It would be much better if you could add narratives to the WebCT tutorials.

6) In the quiz section, the green round buttons...I don't know. It is too big or something that over-powering the page. I would change it to "radio button" or something with less effects. Another thing is that it is not such a good idea to open a new window to offer feedback because a new window may not pop up under certain circumstances and users may get confused or not know what to do. You should definitely improve something on giving better feedback.

Hope this helps! Please don't hesitate to contact me for anything! Again, I am very impressed with your work!

Jina.

Haidong,

Looks pretty good! Some feedback:

Top right of index page
(http://www.arches.uga.edu/~wanghd/edit6200project/index.htm)
and all the container pages, blue lettering is difficult to
see on black background.

Captivate movie controls are small. To navigate backwards and
forwards, I have a tiny target to click. Consider making the
controls larger. The screen resolution is 1024 x 768.
Sometimes web designers include a note suggesting the
resolution for optimal viewing. I am not sure which is more
convenient for you: to put in a note, or to select a larger
control panel.

The grey text links look a little washed out. When there are
several on a page with a lot of text, the eye might not catch
the links (e.g.
http://www.arches.uga.edu/~wanghd/edit6200project/procedure5.h
tm). Use a darker grey, or the usual blue would work too.

By contrast, when there is more white space around the grey
text links, they show up much better (e.g.
http://www.arches.uga.edu/~wanghd/edit6200project/webct.htm)
but you'll probably want to be consistent.

Link to Quiz Yourself is not live on 5th Learning procedure
page
(http://www.arches.uga.edu/~wanghd/edit6200project/procedure5.
htm).

For Quiz Yourself pop-up response scripts contain minor
typographical errors. Please let me know if you would like
specific feedback on those. You may want to put a link to
close the pop-up windows. I didn't think to close each one
and after I closed out your web site, I found my desktop
strewn with little pop-up windows. I had clicked a lot of
them at random to make sure they were working.

If you need any clarification on the stuff I mentioned,
please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Haidong,

I like the online-orientation a lot!
The layout and the navigation are very clear.
I especially like the way you combined html pages, streaming
welcome video, captivate, and on-line quizzes in this online-
orientation.

Just few comments for this project.
1. I was wondering where I can get Faculty information in
this orientation. I think the perspective students who want
to take on-line program will interested in faculty info.

2. It might be better to put one test item instead of two in
one page.

3. Provide a direct link to webCT login page on the "intro to
WebCT" page.

Well done Haidong! I bet none of the students will bored when
going through this online-orientation. It just very
interesting and interactive!

Good luck!

Hi Haidong,

You have done a great job with your project. Very professional and sequential.

Here are my desk crits:

1.  The UGA Arch logo in the header is not optimized well.  You need to find a better one and resize it using firworks optimization settings.  You can find good UGA images here : http://www.uga.edu/identity

2.  You need to put the title "Online Orientation" on the left side of the header.  Right now it seems liike Online Orientation is a button that takes you somewhere else.  It is not clear that this whole e-learning site is about online orientation if you do not put the heading larger and on the left next to the Arch image.

3.  I would prefer you center the navigation links and take out the last 2 double lines after "Contact Info"

4.  You have black text on dark grey background in the footer.  I would change the background or text to a different color.  I like how you have "Last updated" on each page but is that referring to the whole site or each page?

5.  Your quiz is done very well.  Make sure you put a note for the user to allow pop-ups on their browser.  Also since you are using images you do not have to put the "#" sign for the link.  The # sign for the link is causing your scrollbar to go on top each time they click on the button.  You will have to go to each button and take off the # sign and keep the link empty.  But the behavior to open a new window will still take effect.

It has been great taking classes with you and I hope to see you on the basketball court soon.

Hello,

I finally got chance to explore your fantastic online orientation project. I believe it will be a great source for new student to learn the programs provided by the department. I have some comments and suggestions for your project. They are my personal opinions. Please feel free to contact me for any questions related to them.

The layout of the website is neat and precise. It is easy for me to find the menu and key information that I think should be the focuses of this orientation website. Also the color combination you use for appearance is great. Navigation became easy to users like me.

When I start the program, the welcome video began loading. I am trying to skip it, but there is no button called either "skip" or "next". Then I got out of the loading situation when I tried the button under the welcome. My suggestion is allowing users to begin/stop loading the video or providing a button for them to get out.

Learning procedure part has the rich information. It looks professional. My suggestion is put the titles in the beginning as a submenu instead of numbers since users could want to see the page 3 but they have to click all of them to know the topics.

In the 5th quiz question, the feedback has a typo, it should be discussion board. It is one of the best orientation website in UGA website I have ever seen. Look forward to seeing you on the showcase.

Hi, Haidong

The following is my crits on your project.
Hope it will help.

You really do a good job. I like the “Intro to WebCT”. It
provides a very clear way to show people. The video and the
quiz are so good. A couple of things that I would suggest
are the following. In every page, the logo of arch is a
little bit fuzzy. I think you can make the navigation bar in
every page more obvious. For instance, Learning procedure: 1
| 2 | 3 | 4 | 5, you can add some description with 1.
Another thing is probably you can add more content in
interaction part. Quiz is good but you can use pictures to
lead the learner. For instance, when learners see the
picture, they can have some activities to do. Overall, the
project is very good. Hope these suggestions help; I look
forward to seeing the final product.

Hi, Haidong.

I'm Hyoseon An.

I should have replied your mail asking for desk crits. I
hope this is not too late.
I reviewed your project site. I am sure your site is a good
guide for the students who are interested in the course. The
strong points of your project site are 1) the content is
well-organized (Clear presentation of objectives and good
consolidation with quiz) 2) the overall design is very neat
(really easy to navigate).

Here are some suggestions for improving your project.
1).In quiz section, the buttons for options are too
large. Why don’t you polish them a little?
2).Why don’t you show the answer of each question on
the same window instead of pop-up one?

You did an excellent job!

p.s. I also need your desk crit. Why don't you drop by my
project site(http://hsan615.cafe24.com), and give some
comments on that?

Hi Haidong,

You did a great job with using Captivate. Isn't it a very good tool? The orientation website is very easy to understand with user-friendly navigation. This is the strength of your website. Here are some few suggestions:

1. The fonts that you used in the website are inconsistent. Most of them are Arial. But the fonts for the bottom part and the sub-title of each page are times new roman. It will be better you change them all to the Arial, so the font in times new roman will be as catchy as the font in Arial.

2.In the Intro to WebCT, you have "Have a question on WebCT? Check F.A.Q". This is pretty small, especially the text F.A.Q. It will be nicer if you enlarge the font size.

3. At the end of each module that you created in Captaivate, it will be nicer if you add some text at the last page to indicate that "this is the end of Module 1, please go to Module 2."

4. Is it possible to make all the feedback for the questions showing up in one window rather than in different windows for different questions? The novince might have difficulty handling all the windows. Hope this helps.

I reviewed your website and really enjoyed it. Overall I like your color scheme and graphics. As I was going through the site I found a few errors in spelling and format.

Wecome Page: Procesure should be Procedure

Feedback: Congradulations should be Congratulations.

Program Overview: There are some bolded words and one set caught the L in final, I didn't know if you meant for all of final to be bold.

Course Registration Page: a t is bolded that maybe shouldn't be

on one of the last feedbacks you have assynchronous and it should be asyncronous and you have discussion spelled as discusion.

I would like to make a comment on your feedback. I felt like the feedback was excellent because you provided more than just correct or incorrect. I do wonder if this could have been made more interactive. I am assuming this is what your client asked for, but as the learner I felt like more interaction and involvement would have enhanced the environment.
